YouTube Timestamp Link Generator
Paste a YouTube video link, set the start time, and get a shareable link that opens the video at that exact moment.
What Does This YouTube Timestamp Link Generator Do?
This YouTube timestamp link generator turns a video URL and a start time into a link that opens the video at that exact moment. Paste the video link, type the hours, minutes, and seconds where playback should begin, and the tool builds a ready to share link for you. It also reads playlist details from the link you paste, so a video that belongs to a playlist keeps its place in that playlist. The work happens in your browser, and the tool never contacts YouTube while it builds the link.
How to Use This YouTube Timestamp Link Generator?
- Paste the YouTube video URL. Copy the link from your browser or from YouTube’s share option and paste it into the YouTube Video URL box. You can leave out the https:// part if you like.
- Set the start time. Type the hours, minutes, and seconds into their own boxes. Any box you leave empty counts as zero, so you only need to fill in the parts you want.
- Or pick a quick time. Click one of the Quick Select buttons (0:30, 1:00, 2:00, 5:00, or 10:00) to fill the three time boxes in one click. The button stays highlighted while its time matches what is in the boxes.
- Click Generate Timestamp Link. The result area appears with your new link in a read only box.
- Copy or open the link. Use Copy Link to put it on your clipboard, or Open Link to test it in a new tab before you share it.
- Start again if needed. Click Reset to clear the URL, the time boxes, and the result, then enter a new video.
YouTube Timestamp Link Generator Features
Many YouTube Link Types
Accepts standard watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, embed, live, and YouTube Music links, plus the youtube-nocookie.com domain.
Hours, Minutes, and Seconds
Three separate boxes let you enter the time the way you read it in the player. The tool does the conversion to seconds for you.
Quick Select Buttons
Five preset buttons cover common start points from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, and each one fills the time boxes instantly.
Playlist Details Kept
If the link you paste contains a playlist ID, the new link keeps it, along with the video’s position in that playlist when one is present.
Copy and Open in One Place
Copy the link with one click, or open it in a new tab to check that it starts where you expect before you send it to anyone.
Clear Error Messages
An empty box, a link that is not a YouTube video, or a minutes or seconds value above 59 each gets a plain message and the field to fix is highlighted.
How to Link to a Specific Time in a YouTube Video
A timestamp link is a normal YouTube link with one extra piece at the end. That piece is a t parameter, and it tells YouTube how many seconds into the video to start. A video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEOID becomes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEOID&t=90s when you want it to begin at 1 minute 30 seconds.
You can build this by hand, but you first have to turn your time into seconds and then place it in the right spot. That is where small mistakes happen, such as using a question mark instead of an ampersand, or counting 1:30 as 130. This tool handles both steps. It finds the video ID in the link you paste, adds up the seconds, and joins everything into one clean link.
The generator writes the time in seconds with an s at the end, so 1 minute 30 seconds becomes t=90s. If the start time is zero, no t value is added and you simply get the plain video link.
How the Timestamp Link Is Built
Behind the button, the tool follows two simple steps. Knowing them helps you understand what ends up in the link you copy.
Reading the Video Link
The tool checks that the address belongs to YouTube, then automatically pulls out the 11 character video ID, wherever it sits in the link. If a playlist ID and a playlist position are present, it keeps them too for further processing.
Adding the Start Time
Your hours, minutes, and seconds are added up into a single number of seconds. That number is attached to the standard youtube.com watch address, so the link always comes out in the same familiar form.
YouTube Timestamp Format Explained
If you have ever wondered how a time like 1:02:03 turns into a number in a link, the table below shows the maths the tool does for you. The Quick Select buttons are included, so you can see exactly what each one produces.
| Start Time | Total Seconds | Added to the Link |
|---|---|---|
| 0:30 | 30 | &t=30s |
| 1:00 | 60 | &t=60s |
| 1:30 | 90 | &t=90s |
| 2:00 | 120 | &t=120s |
| 5:00 | 300 | &t=300s |
| 10:00 | 600 | &t=600s |
| 1:02:03 | 3723 | &t=3723s |
The rule is hours times 3600, plus minutes times 60, plus seconds. A video moment at 75 minutes should be entered as 1 hour and 15 minutes, because the minutes and seconds boxes only accept values up to 59.
Which YouTube Links Work With This Tool
You do not need to clean up a link before pasting it. Whichever of these formats you copy, the result is the same kind of standard watch link with your start time added.
| Link Type | Looks Like | Accepted |
|---|---|---|
| Standard watch link | youtube.com/watch?v=… | Yes |
| Short link | youtu.be/… | Yes |
| Shorts link | youtube.com/shorts/… | Yes |
| Embed link | youtube.com/embed/… | Yes |
| Live link | youtube.com/live/… | Yes |
| YouTube Music link | music.youtube.com/watch?v=… | Yes |
| Mobile link | m.youtube.com/watch?v=… | Yes |
| Channel or search page | youtube.com/@name | No, a video link is needed |
Other extras in the original link, such as share tracking tags, are not copied into the new one. Only the video ID, the playlist details, and your start time are kept, which keeps the final link short and tidy.
Why a Timestamp Link May Not Start Where You Expect
This tool does not connect to YouTube, so it cannot know how long your video is. That is why the page shows a note about it. If the start time is longer than the video, YouTube may start from the beginning or jump to the end instead of the moment you wanted.
If a link behaves strangely, check these points first:
Time Is Past the End
Compare your start time with the video length shown in the player. The start time must be shorter than the video.
Wrong Video ID
The tool checks the format of the link, not whether the video exists or is public. Open the result once to confirm it plays.
Time Entered Incorrectly
Enter 1 hour 5 minutes, not 65 minutes. The minutes and seconds boxes stop at 59 and show an error beyond that.
Link Was Changed Later
If someone edits the link by hand, the t value can get lost. Share the exact link you copied from the result box.
Is It Safe to Use This Tool?
The link you paste stays on your device. The tool reads it, builds the new link, and shows it on the page using JavaScript that runs inside your browser. It does not send the address to a server and it does not ask YouTube anything, so there is no sign up, no account, and nothing to install.
The only time a request goes to YouTube is when you click Open Link, or when someone opens the link you shared. That request is the normal YouTube page load and has nothing to do with this tool.
Common Uses for YouTube Timestamp Links
Skipping an Intro
Send a friend or colleague straight to the exact part of a tutorial, talk, or lecture that answers their specific question quickly.
Study and Course Notes
Add links to the exact minute of a lesson in your notes or shared documents so you can revisit a single explanation fast.
Work Messages and Emails
Point a teammate to the moment in a product demo or recorded meeting that matters, instead of asking them to watch it all.
Reviews and References
When you write a post or article that cites a video, a timestamp link shows readers precisely where the point is made.
How to Copy a YouTube Link at the Current Time
Another common way to get a timestamp link is from YouTube itself. On a computer, pause the video at the moment you want, click Share under the player, and tick the Start at box before copying the link. Right clicking the player and choosing the option to copy the video URL at the current time does the same job.
That works well when you are already watching the video. This tool is the better choice when you do not want to play and pause to find the spot, when you already know the time from your notes, or when you only have a link someone sent you. You type the time once, check it, and get the same kind of link without opening the video first.
When you need the finished link somewhere other than a chat message, for example on a printed page or a slide, you can turn it into a scannable code with our QR Code Generator.
Tips for Better Timestamp Links
Test Before You Send
Click Open Link once. It takes a few seconds and confirms that the video plays and starts at the right moment.
Start a Few Seconds Early
Beginning five seconds before the key line gives viewers context, so the moment does not feel cut off.
Say What Happens There
Add a short line next to the link, such as “the pricing explanation starts here”, so people know why to click.
Use the Reset Button
Reset clears the URL, the time, and the result at once, so an old start time never carries over into your next link.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I create a YouTube link that starts at a specific time?
Paste the video URL into the tool, enter the hours, minutes, and seconds where you want playback to begin, and click Generate Timestamp Link. Then copy the link from the result box.
What does the t parameter in a YouTube link mean?
The t parameter sets the number of seconds into the video where playback starts. This tool writes it as t followed by the number of seconds and the letter s, for example t=90s.
Can I enter the time in minutes and seconds only?
Yes. Leave the Hours box empty and fill in only Minutes and Seconds. Empty boxes are treated as zero.
Why does it say minutes or seconds must be between 0 and 59?
Minutes and seconds follow normal clock rules, so each can go up to 59 only. For a moment such as 75 minutes into a video, enter 1 in Hours and 15 in Minutes.
Which types of YouTube links can I paste?
The tool accepts regular watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, embed, and live links, as well as YouTube Music and mobile links. The link must point to a single video.
Will a youtu.be link stay a youtu.be link?
No. Every result is written in the standard youtube.com watch format, whichever type of link you paste.
Does the tool keep the playlist in the link?
Yes. If the pasted link contains a playlist ID, it is kept in the new link. The video’s position in the playlist is kept as well when the original link includes it.
How do I copy a YouTube link at the current time?
On a computer, pause the video, click Share, tick the Start at box, and copy the link. If you already know the time, you can skip that and enter it in this tool instead.
What happens if I leave the start time empty?
You still get a valid link, but without a t value. It will simply open the video from the beginning.
Does the tool check how long the video is?
No. It does not connect to YouTube, so make sure your start time is within the video’s real length. A time that is too long may make the link start from the beginning or jump to the end.
Is my video link sent to a server?
No. The link is processed inside your browser and is not sent anywhere by the tool.
Do I need an account or any payment to use it?
No. There is no sign up and no cost. Open the page, paste your link, and generate.
Does this tool work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The layout adjusts to small screens, so the time boxes, Quick Select buttons, and result buttons are easy to use on a phone.
