YouTube Shorts Link Converter

Turn any YouTube Shorts URL into a watch, embed, or share link, with a thumbnail and embed code generator.

What Does This YouTube Shorts Link Converter Do?

This YouTube Shorts link converter takes a Shorts URL and turns it into a standard YouTube watch link, so the video opens in the regular player instead of the vertical Shorts feed. At the same time it gives you four more versions of the same video: an embed link, a short share link, the original Shorts link, and a thumbnail image link. Each one has its own copy button.

A second panel called Website Embed Code generates ready to paste iframe, React, and full page code, so you can place a Short on your own website with the right shape, width, and player options. Both parts run inside your browser, and the link you paste is never sent to a server.

How to Use This YouTube Shorts Link Converter?

  1. Add your link. Type or paste a YouTube link into the field, or click the Paste button to bring in whatever you last copied. Typing https:// is optional.
  2. Let it convert. There is no convert button. As soon as the link is valid, a green message shows the video ID and the results appear below.
  3. Copy the link you need. You get five rows: Standard YouTube Link, YouTube Embed Link, YouTube Share Link, YouTube Shorts Link, and Thumbnail Image Link. Click Copy next to the one you want.
  4. Open the video. Click Open Video to play the standard watch link in a new browser tab and confirm it is the right video.
  5. Need website code? Expand Website Embed Code, pick a code type, shape, width, and player options, then click Copy Code.
  6. Start over. Click Reset to clear the field, restore the default embed settings, and collapse the embed panel.

YouTube Shorts Link Converter Features

Instant Conversion

Results appear automatically a moment after you paste or type a valid link. Pressing Enter or clicking away from the field also triggers it right away.

Five Link Formats

Get the watch, embed, share, Shorts, and thumbnail links for the same video in one place, each in its own box with a copy button.

One Click Paste

The Paste button reads your clipboard and converts the link in a single step. If your browser blocks clipboard access, you are told to paste into the field manually.

Works With Several Link Types

Shorts, watch, live, embed, and youtu.be links are all accepted, including mobile and YouTube Music addresses, so you do not have to find a Shorts link first.

Website Embed Code Generator

Choose from five code types and four video shapes, set a start time, and switch player options on or off. The code updates as you change each setting.

Open Video Button

Check the converted video straight away. The button opens the standard watch link in a new tab, so your current page stays put while you continue working without interruptions.

Clear Error Messages

If a link is not supported or the video ID is malformed, a short message explains what is wrong so you can fix it instead of guessing.

Browser-Based, No Sign-Up

Everything is worked out locally in your browser. There is no account, no upload, and no limit on how many links you convert.

How to Convert a YouTube Shorts Link to a Normal Link

A Short and a regular YouTube video are identified by the same 11 character video ID. Only the web address wrapped around that ID is different. A Shorts link uses /shorts/ followed by the ID, while a standard link uses /watch?v= followed by the same ID. You can swap those two parts by hand, but the tool does it for you and checks the ID at the same time, so a mistyped link is caught before you share it.

Reading the Video ID

The tool confirms the link comes from a supported YouTube address, finds the ID in the right place for that link type, and checks that it is exactly 11 letters, numbers, dashes, or underscores. Anything else is rejected with a clear message.

Building the Links

The ID is placed into five fixed patterns, one for each link type. Because every link is built from the ID alone, extra parameters such as tracking codes in a copied share link are left out of the results for better accuracy and consistency.

VIDEO_ID youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID

The converted link opens the same video as the original Short. The only change is that it plays in the standard YouTube player rather than inside the Shorts feed.

Which YouTube Links Can You Paste?

Despite the name, you are not limited to Shorts links. Paste any of the supported formats below and you will get the same five results.

Link You PasteExample FormatResult
Shorts linkyoutube.com/shorts/VIDEO_IDConverted
Standard watch linkyoutube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_IDConverted
Short share linkyoutu.be/VIDEO_IDConverted
Live linkyoutube.com/live/VIDEO_IDConverted
Embed linkyoutube.com/embed/VIDEO_IDConverted
Mobile, Music, or privacy domainm.youtube.com, music.youtube.com, youtube-nocookie.comConverted when the path is one of the types above
Playlist, channel, or other pagesyoutube.com/playlist?list=…Rejected with a “not supported” message

What Are the Five Links You Get?

Each result is a different way of pointing at the same video. Knowing which one to use saves you from sharing a link that does not fit where it is going.

Link TypeFormatBest For
Standard YouTube Linkyoutube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_IDWatching in the regular player
YouTube Embed Linkyoutube.com/embed/VIDEO_IDThe source address inside an iframe
YouTube Share Linkyoutu.be/VIDEO_IDMessages, bios, and anywhere a short link looks tidy
YouTube Shorts Linkyoutube.com/shorts/VIDEO_IDSharing the original vertical Shorts view
Thumbnail Image Linki.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/hqdefault.jpgPreviews, link cards, and design mockups

The thumbnail row gives you the address of the image rather than a downloaded file. If you want to save the picture itself, use our YouTube Thumbnail Downloader.

How to Embed a YouTube Short on Your Website

Once a link is converted, open the Website Embed Code section below the results. It starts with sensible defaults for a Short: the Responsive iframe code type, a vertical 9:16 shape, a max width of 315 pixels, player controls on, fullscreen allowed, lazy loading on, and privacy-enhanced mode on. Copy the code, paste it into the page where the video should appear, and it works as is. In WordPress, a Custom HTML block is the usual place to paste it.

Code TypeWhat You GetGood For
Responsive iframeHTML and CSS that scale the video to the width of its containerMost blog posts and landing pages
Basic iframeA single iframe tag with fixed width and heightSimple pages where the size never changes
Click-to-loadA thumbnail with a play button that loads the player only when clickedFaster page speed, or pages with many videos
React componentA ready to use component with the same responsive wrapperReact and Next.js projects
Full HTML pageA complete document with the video already placed in itStandalone pages and quick tests

The click-to-load version includes a small script, so paste it somewhere your site allows scripts. The other four types are plain markup or a component.

Embed Settings Explained

Video Shape and Width

Pick 9:16, 16:9, 1:1, or 4:5. Each has a default width of 315, 560, 400, or 360 pixels, and you can set any max width from 150 to 1920. The height is worked out for you.

Start Time

Enter seconds like 45, or a time like 1:30, to make the embedded video begin at that point. To share a plain link that jumps to a moment, try our YouTube Timestamp Link Generator.

Autoplay and Start Muted

Browsers only allow autoplay when the video is muted. Turning autoplay on therefore switches Start muted on and locks it, and a short note explains why.

Loop Video

Tick Loop video, and the code adds what the player needs to repeat the same video again and again automatically, which works perfectly for short clips.

Privacy-Enhanced Mode

On by default. The embed uses the youtube-nocookie.com address instead of youtube.com for improved privacy protection. Untick it if you prefer the standard embed address instead.

Title, Controls, and Fullscreen

The video title you type becomes the iframe’s accessible title. You can also hide the player controls, allow related videos from other channels, and turn fullscreen or lazy loading on or off.

Is It Safe to Convert YouTube Links Online?

Many link tools send whatever you paste to a server before returning a result. This one does not. Reading the video ID, building the five links, and generating the embed code all happen locally in your browser using JavaScript, so nothing you paste is uploaded or stored, and no account is needed.

It is also worth knowing what the tool does not do. It does not download videos, and it does not check whether a video is still online or public. A correctly formatted link will convert even if the video has since been removed, so use the Open Video button to confirm the result before you publish it.

Common Reasons to Convert a Shorts Link

Watching on a Computer

A watch link opens the Short in the regular player, which is easier to use on a large screen than the vertical Shorts layout, providing a more comfortable viewing experience overall.

Sharing With Others

Choose between the standard link and the short youtu.be link depending on where you are pasting it. For printed material, turn the share link into a scannable code with our QR Code Generator.

Embedding in a Page

Blog posts, product pages, and tutorials often need a video placed inside the content. The embed code lets you do that without writing the iframe yourself.

Finding the Video ID or Thumbnail

The success message shows the video ID, and the thumbnail row gives you an image address you can use in notes, designs, or link previews for sharing and reference purposes.

Tips for Using the Converter

Paste the Full Link

Copied share links often end with extra tracking text. Paste the whole thing. Only the video ID is used, so the converted links come out clean.

Match the Code Type to Your Page

Use Responsive iframe for most posts. Choose Click-to-load when a page holds several videos and you want it to load faster.

Write a Real Video Title

Replace the default “YouTube video player” text with a short description of the video. Screen reader users rely on it to know what the embed contains.

Reset Between Videos

Reset clears the link and also returns every embed setting to its default, ensuring that options from one video do not carry over to the next video you want to embed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a YouTube Shorts link to a normal YouTube link?

Paste the Shorts link into the field. The tool reads the video ID and shows a Standard YouTube Link right away, which opens the same video in the regular player. Click Copy to use it.

Can I change the link by hand instead?

Yes. Replacing /shorts/ with /watch?v= in the address gives the same result. The tool simply does it for you, checks that the ID is valid, and adds the embed, share, and thumbnail links.

What kinds of links does this tool accept?

Shorts, watch, live, embed, and youtu.be links are accepted, including addresses from m.youtube.com, music.youtube.com, and youtube-nocookie.com. Playlist, channel, and other page types are not supported.

Do I need to type https:// before the link?

No. If it is missing, the tool adds it for you, so a link such as youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID works as typed.

What do I get after the link is converted?

You get five links for the same video: Standard YouTube, Embed, Share, Shorts, and Thumbnail Image. Each has its own Copy button, and an Open Video button plays the standard link in a new tab.

How do I embed a YouTube Short on my website?

Convert the link, open Website Embed Code, choose a code type, and click Copy Code. Paste the code into your page. The default Responsive iframe uses a vertical 9:16 shape and scales to fit its container.

Can I embed the video in a wide or square shape?

Yes. The Video Shape menu offers 9:16, 16:9, 1:1, and 4:5, and the Max Width field lets you set a width from 150 to 1920 pixels. The code adjusts its height to match.

Can the embedded video start at a specific time?

Yes. Type the start time as seconds, such as 45, or as minutes and seconds, such as 1:30, in the Start Time field. The generated code includes it.

Why does Start muted turn on when I choose autoplay?

Browsers only allow autoplay when the video is muted. When you tick Autoplay, the tool switches on Start muted and locks it so the embed behaves as expected.

What is privacy-enhanced mode?

It makes the embed use the youtube-nocookie.com address instead of youtube.com. It is switched on by default and you can untick it if you do not want it.

What does the Click-to-load option do?

It shows the video’s thumbnail with a play button. The actual YouTube player loads only after a visitor clicks or presses Enter, which can help your page load faster.

Does this tool download YouTube Shorts?

No. It creates links and embed code only. It does not download or save the video file.

Is the link I paste sent to a server?

No. The link is processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and you do not need an account.

Why does it say my link is not supported or not valid?

The link may point to a page type such as a playlist or channel, come from a site other than YouTube, or contain a video ID that is not exactly 11 letters, numbers, dashes, or underscores. Copy the link again from the video and paste it in full.

Does this tool work on mobile devices?

Yes. The layout adapts to phones and tablets. If your browser blocks the Paste button, long press in the field and paste the link manually.
