Why is 32-bit called x86 and not x32?

In the late 1970s, Intel introduced the groundbreaking 8086 Processor, a 16-bit Microprocessor that marked the Genesis of the x86 Architecture. The 'x' in x86 is a placeholder for various numbers. 

Back in 1985, Intel introduced a New and more Powerful Processor called the 80386, which had a 32-bit Architecture. Despite this big improvement, the term "x86" continued to be used to refer to this 32-bit Architecture, emphasizing its lineage from the 8086.

To maintain Compatibility with existing 16-bit software, Intel chose to keep the x86 Nomenclature. This Decision Ensured a Smooth Transition for Users and Developers into the Industry of 32-bit computing 

The "x86" name became deeply ingrained in the public consciousness. Changing to x32 might have Confused and Hindered the Powerful Brand Recognition that Intel and Compatible Processors enjoyed.  

The Success and widespread Adoption of Intel's x86 Architecture prompted other Manufacturers, including AMD, to follow suit. The x86 Standard became the cornerstone of 32-bit computing across the industry. 

Even in the Era of 64-bit Computing, the x86 label persists, emphasizing its enduring Legacy. Modern Processors from both Intel and AMD continue to use the x86 Architecture, showcasing its Adaptability and Longevity.  

The x86 Designation, originating from the Intel 8086, persisted through 16-bit and 32-bit eras. It's not x32 for Historical, Compatibility, and Branding reasons. The legacy lives on, shaping the landscape of Computer Architecture
