Duplicate Line Remover
Paste your list, clean out repeated lines, and review exactly what changed, right in your browser.
What Does This Duplicate Line Remover Do?
This duplicate line remover takes a block of text, reads it one line at a time, and gives you back a version where every repeated line appears only once. Paste a list of emails, keywords, URLs, product codes, or log entries, and the cleaned result shows up in the output panel right away. Along the way it also reports how many lines were removed, which lines were repeated, and how many times each one appeared, so you can see what changed instead of just trusting the result.
Everything runs inside your browser. Your text is not sent anywhere, and there is nothing to install or sign up for.
How to Remove Duplicate Lines Online?
- Add your text. Type or paste one entry per line into the Input panel. You can also use the Paste button to pull text from your clipboard, or Sample Text to see how the tool behaves first.
- Check the settings. As soon as there is text in the input, the actions, settings, stats, and analysis sections open below the two panels. Decide whether capitalization should matter, whether spaces at the start and end of a line should be ignored, and whether blank lines should be dropped. The defaults suit most lists.
- Pick what to keep. Choose whether the first or the last occurrence of a repeated line stays, then set the output order and the output mode.
- Read the result. The Output panel updates as you type and as you change settings. Click Remove Duplicates at any time to run it again and get a confirmation message with the number of lines removed.
- Review the analysis. The stats cards and the analysis tabs below the settings show what was removed, what was repeated, and what appeared only once.
- Copy or download. Use Copy Output or Download TXT for the cleaned list, or grab the unique lines, the duplicate lines, or your original input as separate text files.
Duplicate Line Remover Features
Live Results
The output automatically refreshes shortly after you type, paste, or change a setting, so there is no need to wait for a separate conversion step or manually refresh the results yourself.
Case, Space, and Blank Line Controls
Three switches let you decide how strict the comparison is: case sensitive matching, trimming of leading and trailing spaces and tabs, and whether blank lines are removed.
Keep First or Last Occurrence
Choose which copy of a repeated line survives. Keeping the last one is handy when later entries are the more recent ones.
Output Order and Mode
Keep the original order, sort A-Z or Z-A, or sort by line length. Show unique lines only, duplicate lines only, or all lines.
Built-In Duplicate Analysis
Six stat cards and six analysis tabs show totals, frequencies, line numbers, and removed entries, so you can easily review and audit the entire cleanup process.
Undo, Reset, and Downloads
Step back after a mistake with Undo, start fresh with Reset, and save results as text files for the output, unique lines, duplicate lines, or the original input.
How the Tool Decides Which Lines Are Duplicates
Two lines that look alike to you may not be identical to a computer. A trailing space, a capital letter, or a hidden tab is enough to make an exact match fail, which is why many simple tools leave “duplicates” behind. This one handles the comparison in two steps.
Building a Comparison Key
Each line is compared through a temporary version of itself. Spaces and tabs at the edges are stripped when trimming is on, and the text is lowercased when case sensitivity is off. Unicode text is also normalized, so the same accented letter typed in two different ways still matches.
Choosing the Line That Stays
Lines that share the same key form a group. One line from each group is kept, either the first or the last depending on your setting, and the rest are automatically listed as removed duplicates along with their original line numbers for easy review and reference.
The comparison key is only used to decide whether two lines match. The line that stays in your output keeps its original spelling, capitalization, and spacing, so nothing in your text is rewritten.
Duplicate Remover Settings Explained
The defaults work well for everyday lists, but each setting changes the result in a specific way. Here is what each one does and where it starts.
| Setting | What It Does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Case sensitive | Treats Apple and apple as different lines when turned on | Off |
| Trim whitespace | Ignores spaces and tabs at the start and end of a line when comparing | On |
| Ignore blank lines | Removes empty lines. Turn it off to keep them in the output | On |
| Keep occurrence | Decides whether the first or the last copy of a repeated line stays | First |
| Output order | Original order, A-Z, Z-A, shortest first, or longest first | Original order |
| Output mode | Unique lines only, duplicate lines only, or all lines | Unique lines only |
Here is how a few common cases play out with the default settings and after changing one switch.
| Two Lines | Default Settings | After Changing a Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Apple and apple | Treated as duplicates | Kept separate with Case sensitive on |
| banana and ” banana “ | Treated as duplicates | Kept separate with Trim whitespace off |
| Äpfel und Birnen and äpfel und birnen | Treated as duplicates | Kept separate with Case sensitive on |
| Two empty lines | Both removed | Both kept with Ignore blank lines off |
A line that contains only spaces or tabs counts as a blank line. Trimming only affects the edges of a line, so two lines that differ by extra spaces in the middle are still treated as different. If that is a problem, run the text through the Extra Spaces Remover first.
How to Remove Duplicate Lines Without Excel or Code
The usual advice for deduplicating a list is to open a spreadsheet, use a remove duplicates command, and hope the column was selected correctly, or to write a short script. Both work, but both take more setup than the job deserves when all you have is a plain list copied from an email, a document, or a web page.
With this tool the whole job is a paste. Put the list in the Input panel, leave the defaults on, and copy the Output panel. If the list was typed by different people, the default case insensitive and trimmed comparison catches the near misses that a strict match would miss, such as “Dhaka” and “dhaka ” on two separate lines. If you need the cleaned list in alphabetical order, set Output order to Sort A-Z. For more ways to arrange a list afterward, the Text Sorter is a good next step.
How to Find and Count Duplicate Lines in a List
Sometimes you do not want the duplicates gone, you want to know what they are. The tool covers that without changing any settings. Switch Output mode to Duplicate lines only to see each repeated line once, or open the analysis tabs under the settings.
| Analysis Tab | What You See |
|---|---|
| Duplicate Frequency | Each repeated line with its number of occurrences, most frequent first |
| Find Duplicates | Lines that occur more than once, shown once each |
| Duplicate Preview | Every occurrence of a repeated line, with its line number |
| Removed Duplicates | The copies that were taken out, with their original line numbers |
| Unique Lines | The final entries that remain after cleanup |
| Single Occurrence | Lines that appear exactly once |
Each tab has its own Copy button. The lists show the first 500 entries on screen, and Copy still gives you the full list. The stat cards above the tabs summarize the run: total input lines, unique lines, duplicate lines removed, duplicate groups, lines appearing once, and the duplicate reduction percentage.
Is It Safe to Paste My List Into This Tool?
Mailing lists, customer names, and internal exports are exactly the kind of text people hesitate to paste into random websites. This tool does all of its work in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is not uploaded to a server and no account is needed.
Large inputs are handled too. When the text passes a certain size, processing moves to a background worker so the page stays responsive while the result is calculated, and a status message tells you it is working.
Common Reasons to Remove Duplicate Lines
Cleaning Email and Contact Lists
Lists collected from forms, inboxes, or several teammates often repeat the same address. Removing repeats means each person is listed once.
Tidying Keyword and URL Lists
Keyword research and link lists often collect repeated entries when multiple sources are combined. A quick cleanup removes duplicates, keeping one clean, organized entry for each item.
Trimming Logs and Exports
Repeated messages in a log or a data export can bury the entries that matter. Use the frequency tab to see which lines repeat the most.
Merging Lists From Different Sources
Paste two or more lists one after another and the tool leaves a single combined list with the overlap removed.
Keeping the First or the Last Copy of a Line
Most duplicate removers always keep the first copy and give you no choice. Here the Keep occurrence setting lets you switch to the last copy instead. That matters when your list grows over time and newer entries sit at the bottom, or when you want a repeated line to land in the position where it appeared last. With the original order selected, the kept line stays in the spot of the occurrence you chose, and the removed copies are listed in the Removed Duplicates tab so nothing disappears without a trace.
Tips for Cleaner Results
Check the Removed List First
Open the Removed Duplicates tab before copying your result. It shows exactly which lines were taken out and where they came from.
Standardize Capitalization Afterward
The kept line keeps its original capitalization. If you want a uniform style in the final list, run it through the Case Converter.
Chain Passes With Output as Input
Use Output as Input to send the cleaned result back to the input panel, then try a different setting on it. Undo brings the earlier version back.
Confirm Your Line Totals
The input and output panels show character and line counts. For a separate count of any text, the Line Counter is available too.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove duplicate lines from text online?
Paste your text into the Input panel with one entry per line. The Output panel shows the same text with repeated lines removed. Copy it with Copy Output or save it with Download TXT.
Do I need to click a button to remove the duplicates?
No. The result updates automatically as you type, paste, or change a setting. The Remove Duplicates button simply runs the process again and shows a message with the number of lines removed.
Why are the settings and analysis not visible at first?
The actions, settings, stats, and analysis sections stay collapsed while the input is empty. They open automatically once you type, paste, or load the sample text, and close again when the input is empty.
Is the comparison case sensitive?
Not by default, so Apple and apple count as the same line. Turn on Case sensitive if you want them treated as different lines.
Do extra spaces at the start or end of a line matter?
Not by default. Trim whitespace is on, so spaces and tabs at the edges of a line are ignored when lines are compared. Turn it off if those spaces should count as a difference.
What happens to blank lines?
With Ignore blank lines on, empty lines are removed and a note in the status message tells you how many were ignored. Turn the setting off to keep them in the output.
Can I keep the last occurrence instead of the first?
Yes. Under Keep occurrence, choose Last. The final copy of each repeated line stays and the earlier copies are removed.
Will my original line order be preserved?
Yes, by default. Output order is set to Original order. You can switch to Sort A-Z, Sort Z-A, shortest first, or longest first at any time.
Can I see only the duplicate lines?
Yes. Set Output mode to Duplicate lines only to list each repeated line once. You can also copy the removed copies with Copy Removed Duplicates or download them as a text file.
How can I find out how many times each line is repeated?
Open the Duplicate Frequency tab in the analysis section. It lists each repeated line with its number of occurrences, starting with the most frequent.
Can I undo a change?
Yes. Undo steps back to the previous input and settings. It sits in the Actions section, which is only visible while the input contains text, so it is hidden after Clear or Reset empties the input.
What can I download?
You can download the current output, the unique lines, the duplicate lines, or your original input. Each one is saved as a plain text file.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. Your text is processed inside your browser and is not sent anywhere.
Does it work with long lists?
Yes. Very large inputs are processed in the background so the page does not freeze. The analysis tabs show up to 500 entries on screen, and the Copy button on each tab gives you the full list.
Does it work with accented letters, emoji, and other languages?
Yes. The built-in sample text includes accented German, Japanese, and emoji lines. Text is normalized before comparison, so the same character written in different Unicode forms is matched correctly.
Why does the Paste button not work for me?
The Paste button needs permission from your browser to read the clipboard. If access is blocked, click into the Input panel and press Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on a Mac) instead.
Does this tool work on mobile devices?
Yes. The layout adapts to smaller screens, so the input, output, settings, and analysis tabs are all usable on phones and tablets.
