What Does This Split PDF Tool Do?
This tool breaks one PDF into smaller, separate PDF files. Drop in a document, tell it which pages you want, and it builds new PDF files from just those pages. You can pull out one or more page ranges, grab a specific set of pages such as 1, 3 and 5 to 8, or keep everything together as one reordered file. The splitting happens directly in your browser, so the document you upload is never sent to a server.
How to Use This Split PDF Tool
- Upload your PDF. Drag and drop a file onto the drop zone, or click anywhere on it to browse your device.
- Check the file details. Once the document loads, its name and total page count appear above the options, so you can confirm it is the right file.
- Pick how you want to split it. Choose the Split by Range tab to define one or more page ranges, or the Extract Specific Pages tab to list individual page numbers.
- Set your ranges or pages. For ranges, enter a From and To page for each one, adding more rows if needed. For specific pages, type the numbers separated by commas, using a hyphen for a short run of pages.
- Decide on merging. Tick “Merge all ranges into a single PDF file” if you want every range combined into one document instead of separate files.
- Click Split PDF. The tool builds your new file or files and lists each one with its page count and size, ready to download individually or all at once.
Split by Page Range or Extract Specific Pages: Which Should You Use?
The tool offers two ways to describe which pages you need, and picking the right one depends on how your pages are grouped.
Split by Range
Best when your document is made up of large, continuous sections, like chapters, invoices, or one report per set of pages. Add a From and To page for each section, and every range is turned into its own PDF, or merged into one if you check the merge box.
Extract Specific Pages
Best when the pages you need are scattered throughout the document rather than sitting together, like a handful of signed pages, key charts, or an appendix mixed in with other content. Simply enter the page numbers you want, and the tool pulls them all into a single new PDF, in the exact order you specify.
Both tabs check your page numbers against the document’s actual page count before splitting, and point out anything out of range, out of order, or left blank so you can fix it before continuing.
Separate Files or One Merged PDF?
When you split by page range, you get to choose how the output is organized. Leave the merge option unchecked and each range downloads as its own PDF, named after the pages it contains, for example a file covering pages 5 to 9. Tick “Merge all ranges into a single PDF file” and every range you defined is stitched together into one file instead, in the order you listed them. This is useful for pulling together a handful of chapters or sections from a longer document without ending up with several separate downloads.
How to Split a PDF Into Individual One-Page Files
Sometimes you do not want sections at all, you want every single page saved as its own PDF. You can do this with the Split by Range tab by treating each page as its own range.
- Open Split by Range. This tab lets each range become its own file, which is exactly what a one-page split needs.
- Set From and To to the same number. For example, enter 1 in both fields to isolate page 1, then add another range and enter 2 in both fields for page 2.
- Repeat for every page. Add a new range for each page number in the document, leaving the merge option unchecked.
- Split and download. Click Split PDF and use Download All Files to save every single page as a separate PDF in one go.
This is a common need when uploading pages to a system that only accepts one page per file, or when archiving each page of a scanned document separately.
How to Split a PDF in Half
If you just want to divide a document into a first half and a second half, the Split by Range tab handles this in two quick ranges once you know the total page count shown after upload.
- Note the total page count. This appears next to your file name once the PDF has loaded.
- Find the halfway page. Divide the total by two. For a 40-page document, the halfway point is page 20.
- Set the first range. Enter 1 as From and 20 as To to cover the first half.
- Add a second range. Enter 21 as From and the last page number as To to cover the second half.
- Split PDF. Leave merge unchecked and you get two separate files, one for each half, ready to download.
For a document with an odd number of pages, add the extra page to either half, whichever side makes more sense for your content.

Useful Tips
Check the Page Count First
The total page count appears right after you upload, so you know the highest page number you can safely reference in a range or a page list.
Add Rows for Multiple Sections
Use Add Another Range whenever you need more than one section pulled out at once, then remove any row you decide you do not need.
Use Hyphens for Short Runs
In Extract Specific Pages, a hyphen like 5-8 covers every page in between, so you do not need to type each number one by one.
Use Download All for Many Files
If splitting by range produces several separate PDFs, Download All Files saves you from clicking Download on each result one at a time.
